WORKSHOP
Leading change. Living with isolation. Managing stress.
Even though much of our lives is “virtual” these days, change, isolation, and soul-crushing stress are hardly virtual in nature. They are real, and have significant and painful implications for just about everyone.
You may be familiar with the car commercial from years ago, where the lad in the foreground whispered the viewers “zoom, zoom,” as the car zipped along an ocean front windy road. Carefree, powerful, and sexy might have described the car then, but it hardly described the context for many in these days of ongoing coping with a global change in how we live and work.
Leading with values in complex times
Just the other day I read the phrase, “I feel zoomed out,” which doesn’t have anything to do with a zippy car, and more to do with the exhaustion associated with too many meetings sitting in front of a monitor being reminded “you are on mute,” and all the while hearing the noise of home life continuing off camera. Such are the kinds of real-world issues that people are facing these unprecedented days.
Leading with values in complex times starts with an awareness of our own values – the values that provide stability in times of change. Foundational values like family, safety/survival that remind us of those elements on which one can trust and rely. Values like self-worth, friendship, and the assurance of one’s beliefs provide guidance on a daily basis. At the heart of the human experience are the values that provide foundation for life, focus for our daily activities, and a pull towards the future for which we aspire.
When life is interrupted – leadership for complex times
But what happens when this is interrupted? When the predictability of life is interrupted by calamity, by a change in life circumstances, or by the impact of the ongoing a global pandemic?
There is really no better time to engage in learning about our personal values and the values we share with those in our world – our personal and professional interactions with the world around us. Values integrated leadership for complex times is a 23 hour workshop that consists of the following content.
